"The journey of a thousand leagues begins with a single step. So we must never neglect any work of peace within our reach, however small." -Adlai Stevenson
Recently I have felt inspired to start a new blog. The inspiration came from my classes for grad school. I'm studying Global and International Education. It probably doesn't come as a surprise that a lot of our material touches on the idea that we're all interconnected. I know we hear this world a lot, but I would venture to guess that many people just think, "yeah, yeah" and brush it aside. Perhaps you agree that we are all interconnected, but do you really think about what it means? It's a hard concept to grasp. It's slightly overwhelming to think that our actions affect others--people all across the world whom we don't even know. But as globalization changes the way we live, work, communicate, travel, eat, shop, do business, etc., it's more important than ever that we understand what it means to be interconnected.
My classes have exposed me to many new ideas and have helped me understand what is meant by the terms global citizen or global awareness. Often times I read something or watch a video and wish that I could project the information from loudspeakers all around the world. Since I can't do that, I thought I would use this blog to share information about global issues and our role as global citizens. If you think the changes that are occurring around the world don't affect you or that you can't do anything about them, then I hope this blog will help you think about some of these issues in new ways.
This blog is not only about education, but also about being globally conscious. I realize that it may not reach many people beyond my family and close friends, but it's a start and at this point, it's the best I can do.
